Scorching the Garden 2020 Part 7
This is the third documented grow for us and we are introducing a lot of new things this year. We have more hardware, better software, and the same growing plan that has worked for many years. With the quarantine in full effect, we can’t do any construction on the building, but we can still prep it, and there is more prep to do.
We were going to leave a few floors as is and replace them later. Maybe save a little time, maybe save a little money. But with all this extra time, might as well pull up all the tiles from the last couple rooms.
It turns out, they ended up being tile on top of tile. Another surprise is that it was much easier to pull up the tiles with a small pry bar than originally thought. With how easily they came up, its amazing that they were so secure to walk on.

Looking back, the dumpster was pretty full when we stopped taking up the floors. There’s no way it could have held the rest of the tile. Just those last rooms tiles and covings ended up being pretty heavy, and filled 5 cans.
Looks like we need another dumpster, sooner than we thought.
After hours upon hours of grinding, we are down to the concrete. You could not imagine the dust. Close to 5 gallons of stuff. Those grinders are heavy too. Not all of the mastic made it off. Don’t worry. The building was constructed in 1993 so there is no asbestos in it. To remove the remainder, we’re gonna go with some solvent and scrubbing. YouTube has how to’s for pretty much anything. Good thing because there is still a ton of work to be done.
We’re starting to gather more and more supplies for our next steps. Shipments are slow and sporadic so we don’t know when we’ll have everything we need to work on the next project. First the floors, then the walls, then the ceiling tiles. After that, we get the sinks and hood installed and schedule our inspections. We’re still on track to start operations in mid/late summer.
March and April have been very strange months, to say the least.
We hope you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy, now and always.
